Neil deGrasse Tyson (born October 5, 1958) is an American astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, and science communicator. He has been the Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City for 21 years. The center is part of the American Museum of Natural History, where Tyson founded the Department of Astrophysics in 1997, and has been a research associate in the department for 14 years.
Outside The Simpsons, Tyson has written his own books and also written in research publications. He hosts the television show NOVA ScienceNow on PBS from 2006 to 2011, the weekly podcast StarTalk for 8 years, the spin-off talk show of the same name on National Geographic for 2 years, and the television series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.
Tyson has also been an actor in films and has guest starred in a few TV shows as well.
On The Simpsons, he guest voiced as himself in "The Caper Chase".
