New Springfield was briefly a town that was formed after half of Springfield's citizens seceded from the town.
History[]
Homer and half of Springfield's population decide to break away and form their own town. The secession started due to an argument over a change in area code from 636 to 939 in half of the town.
They name the town (originally enough) "New Springfield", and Homer makes himself the first (and only) mayor of New Springfield. The two towns soon become separated by a wall of trash.
It becomes a ghost town when Homer cuts off Olde Springfield's water supply, accidentally revealing enough gold to lure the citizens into Olde Springfield.
New Springfield was eventually repopulated and merged with Olde Springfield after a solution for the area code problem (speed dial) was suggested by The Who.
