Trivia[]
- Santa's Little Helper's first owner, Les Moore, makes an appearance in this episode.
- Homer's driving license is revoked for the second time. For the first time, it happened in the episode "Duffless" where he drove after drinking beer.
- This is the second episode where Santa's Little Helper chooses to rescue food over Homer from a fire. The first was "Homer the Heretic".
- Snowball II is referred to as a "he" throughout the episode, even though it has been confirmed in several episodes that Snowball II is female.
- While impersonating Marge, Bart says to Lisa over the cup/microphone "The doctor says your butt's too big". This is the fourth time that someone mentions about Lisa's big butt. The first times were in "$pringfield" (by Lisa herself), "Lisa's Date with Density" (by Nelson), and "The Strong Arms of the Ma" (by Marge, albeit offscreen).
- First time we see an actor who plays Duffman in other outfit apart from the latter's brand one.
Cultural references[]
- Old Yeller - Title reference. Plus the title refers to the term "Yellow bellied coward".
- Jaws - When a shark appears, Homer mentions the young naked lady (Crissy) who gets killed in the first Jaws movie (although Homer thought she survived). This was also spoofed in Season 12 "Treehouse of Horror XI".
- Cats - When being interviewed by Kent Brockman, Kent asks if Homer liked the musical Cats.
- Spuds McKenzie (Bud Light Dog) - Santa's Little Helper's story has Suds McDuff in a parody of the Bud Light Campaign.
- Live with Regis and Kelly - Santa's Little Helper appears on this show.
- $10,000 Pyramid - Santa's Little Helper was a special guest star on this show.
- The song Bart, Milhouse, Nelson, Martin and Database are singing is a parody of the Battle Hymn of the Republic.
