  • The episode title is a pun on the saying "Opposites attract". There is also a song with that title.
  • Homer mentions he likes movies where murder is legal one day a year, a reference to the movie franchise The Purge.
  • Upon discovering their mutual attraction, Mr. Burns and Maxine Lombard re-enact the dream sequence from "Singin' In the Rain."
  • The original title for this episode was “Fracking Day”, likely a reference to Whacking Day.

  • A mutated version of Charlie is seen at the power plant.
  • This is the 12th episode that does not have the Couch Gag, Billboard Gag, and the Chalkboard Gag, likely because the episode was running too long.
  • Despite being together at the end of the episode, Maxine has not been on the show since, nor shown to be in a relationship with Mr. Burns. This is likely due to her being played by guest actress Jane Fonda

  • In the Women's Basketball Museum, the picture of Evergreen Terrace shows the Simpsons house to the left of the Flanders House, which is in turn to the left of the Brown House.
