Homer hasn't written to him for at least 30 years. It would be inferred that a bad impression of the whole America, personified by Homer's lack of interest, would have been left in the character. He shares his name with infamous terrorist and Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, and it could also be inferred they are one in the same.
