Panama is a country of Central America.

History[]

Panamanian dictator General Noriega was ousted by U.S. in Panama in 1989 and former First Lady Barbara Bush mentions "Too bad [Homer and George] got off on the wrong foot. It's just like the Noriega thing. Now, he and George are the best of friends." and .[1] Bart plays Panamanian Strongman at the Noise Land Video Arcade where the aviator is a hulked out Noriega at the top of a building being shot at by airplanes in a parody King Kong climbing the Empire State Building. Within the game the building's flagpole has the flag of Panama.[2]

The Sea Captain's container ship carrying America's entire supply of cigarettes is jammed up in the Panama Canal. Patty and Selma see the news report from the Panama Canal and start hording after the warning of a cigarette shortage.[3]

  • The first episode of The Simpsons aired on December 17, 1989, just three days before Operation Just Cause or the U.S. Invasion of Panama was ordered by then President George H.W. Bush that toppled down General Manuel Noriega.
