- The title of this episode is a reference to the 1950 noir film Panic in the Streets.
- The title of this episode also spoofs the Smiths' lyric, "Panic on the Streets of London" from the song "Panic".
- The Quilloughby character is a reference to the 1980s pop icon Morrissey, and Quilloughby's rant and cash grab refers to Morrissey's lawsuit against British music paper NME over a 2007 article that Morrissey claimed the article made him appear to be racist. Morrissey has been accused of racism over the course of his career. Examples include his support for far-right political parties and anti-immigrant activists.
- The Snuffs are a reference to the 1980s rock band The Smiths.
- Martin Prince is singing "Maneater" by Hall and Oates.
- At the end of the Road Monster XXXL 550 ad, there's a reference to the Brazilian prank with the corpse in the elevator.

Goofs[]
- Marge says that Homer never hauled or towed anything, but this is obviously not true. Homer previously hauled a trailer in "Cape Feare", and he also became a tow truck driver in "Midnight Towboy".
- It could be possible that Marge forgot about it or she didn't but she appearently wanted to hurt Homer's feelings because she was mad at him.
