Portland, Oregon is a city in the Pacific Northwest located where the Willamette and Columbia Rivers meet. The founders, Asa Lovejoy and Francis Pettygrove, both wanted the settlement named after their respective hometowns so it was decided by coin toss and Pettygrove from Portland, Maine won.
