Lisa goes online to "Wiccapedia", a parody of Wikipedia. The home page and logo are similar to those of Wikipedia.
The split screen montage featuring Homer and Cletus drinking moonshine is a reference to the film "Sideways", and recreates some of its most memorable scenes. The jazz tune played during this scene is "Wine Safari" from the Sideways soundtrack.
The song played at the end of the episode when Lisa is skating is "Season of the Witch" by Donovan recreating the end credits of To Die For (1995) with Lisa in place of Illena Douglas. Illena Douglas would later be a guest voice in "Crystal Blue-Haired Persuasion". To Die For is set in the fictional town of Little Hope, New Hampshire and the skating scene of the end credits was shot on the Black River near Jackson's Point, Ontario. The building in the background was the Mossington Park Pavilion which was demolished in the late 1990s.
The piano music playing on iPod when Lisa discovers wiccans in the forest is Cursum Perfecio by Enya.
Goofs[]
The rednecks don't seem to be bothered by the cold weather since they are not wearing weather appropriate clothing. One is only seen in his overalls. This is most likely intentionally portraying them as all too used to the cold because of their living conditions or too poor to afford appropriate clothing.
When all the people are in their cars driving home from the ski vacation in the opening scenes, Apu and Manjula can clearly be seen with a car full of white children who are clearly not theirs.
In the scene where Flanders sees Lisa on her computer he mistakes Hell for Dell when he is corrected by his son. However Lisa's computer is clearly an Apple iMac.
When Chief Wiggum is firing at the fly on the ceiling he has a revolver but when he points his gun at the fly on his nose the gun is clearly a semi-automatic.
Lisa knew that Homer had been tasting moonshine and judging at the moonshine competition and hadn't objected to this but Lisa being as intelligent as she is, would have known that drinking moonshine is very dangerous and can kill you. Of course she might have figured Homer would probably not listen to her.
When the town reservoir becomes tainted with moonshine, the water causes anyone who comes into contact with it go temporarily blind but when Homer drinks the water he retains his vision. His body probably got used to Moonshine.
Trivia[]
At one point, on the right hand corner on the courthouse footstep, Bart's well-mark, El Barto, is written.
Twice in this episode, a major character inexplicably escapes a fatal situation. One is when Homer yells so loud it causes the snow above to fall on him, making him resemble a snowman. Afterwards a grenade is rolled in front of him since characters were bowling with grenades as balls and snowmen as skittles. The other is where Chief Wiggum is trying to shoot a fly, which lands on his nose, and the last one is Homer escaping being frozen under ice on the river in the credits.
