Richie Sakai is an anesthesiologist who sang in the karaoke bar at The Happy Sumo restaurant. He is modeled and named after long-time producer Richard Sakai. He sings "Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves" which he dedicates to his wife, Pattie.
He later appeared in "Sideshow Bob Roberts" in Sideshow Bob's campaign ad as one of the convicts escaping from the revolving door prisons.
A man similar to him, but with brown hair, was seen sitting in the Springfield Elementary auditorium.
In "Jazzy and the Pussycats" he is mentioned in a long list of jazz musicians. He plays the xylophone.
