Romania is a country in Europe. The country borders Ukraine, Hungary, Serbia and Moldova and was governed under communism from 1947-1989 with Nicolae Ceaușescu as dictator from 1965-89. The country is the seventh-most populated in Europe and has a population of 19,400,000 inhabitants. Romania joined the European Union on 1 January 2007 and the currency is the Romanian leu. The capital city is Bucharest.
