Two Bad Neighbors
Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield
Bart the Fink

  • Marge gets her dress at a store in Ogdenville. Ogdenville was last mentioned in the episode "Marge vs. the Monorail" in Season 4. In that episode, it was one of the places that the character Lyle Lanley sold monorails.
  • Names of Televisions are Panaphonic, Magnetbox and Sorny. Based on Panasonic, Magnavox and Sony.
  • A sign in front of a shop reads "Browse through our bra barrel!"
  • Burns' command that Homer "Quit cogitating, Steinmetz" refers to Charles P. Steinmetz, one of the most important contributors to the development and adoption of alternating current as an electrical engineer at GE. He died in 1923.
  • Krusty's line, "I knew my kind wasn't welcome here", is likely a reference to his background, as many country clubs historically didn't allow Jewish members.
  • Maggie only appears at the end of this episode, however, she also appears in a deleted scene.
  • This is the first episode to use the new modified font for the end credits and the opening credits of the show, and this font has been used for the show since its debut in this episode.

The horse with red eyes

  • Marge's line "I wouldn't want to join any club that would have me as a member" is a quote by Groucho Marx which was famously repeated by Woody Allen in the movie Annie Hall.

  • When Marge smiles after Evelyn leaves the Kwik-E-Mart gas station, her lipstick disappears. It reappears when Mr. Burns pulls up.
  • When Lisa is first shown riding the horse, the horse's eye is colored solid red.
