Season 9 first aired on September 21, 1997 with its first episode "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson" and ended May 17, 1998 with its final episode "Natural Born Kissers."
The show celebrated its 200th episode on April 26, 1998 with "Trash of the Titans," which included guest stars Steve Martin and U2. The Season 9 boxset was given a 12 (suitable for 12 and over) by the BBFC.
The aired season contains three holdover episodes from the 4F production code that were produced for season 8 and also contains two episodes from the 3G production code that were produced for season 7 which are run by Al Jean and Mike Reiss. There are four episodes that were produced for the season 5F production code, but aired in the following season.
The Simpsons Complete Season Nine boxset was released on the following dates: Like the last three, there were two editions, one with the normal box, and this time, a Lisa shaped clamshell boxset.
