When Homer was kicked out of the house it is unknown why he didn't go and stay in a motel or go to stay with his father. A possible reason might be that the motels were all full or Grampa was on with the other residences of Springfield Retirement Castle. Instead in this he stays in Bart's treehouse.
This episode really made Simpson fans think Marge and Homer were going to get a divorce.
The last episode to originally air on it's regular Thursday night in primetime before the series moved back to Sunday nights.
Homer sings the end of the theme song to Family Ties while talking to an administrator at the annex center.
In Homer's rant to Marge while in their bedroom, he says this:

Surely, Miss Hoover shouldn't be stupid to believe that she can cross the red signal just because she is a teacher.
Also she wouldn't be able to hear Homer saying it from his car as her car windows were closed
When Homer is explaining how an orange is a lot like marriage, Barney Gumble is seen sitting next to Groundskeeper Willie, but when the camera pans over to Willie saying, "If I wanted to see a man eat an orange..." Barney is no longer in his seat.
When Moe lands the backflip in his "Funk Dancing for Self-Defense" class, he cuts in front of the desk.
In the same scene, he fires a double-barreled shotgun three times.
