Secrets of a Successful Marriage |
|
Trivia
- This is the first episode to express Moe's feelings toward Marge.
- According to Homer, Marge dyes her hair.
- Students in Homer's class include Carl, Apu, Sideshow Mel, Smithers, Principal Skinner, Mrs. Krabappel, Lionel Hutz, Groundskeeper Willie, Otto, Barney and Princess Kashmir.
- Otto has lice.
- Lenny and Carl smoke cigarettes.
- When Homer was kicked out of the house it is unknown why he didn't go and stay in a motel or go to stay with his father. A possible reason might be that the motels were all full or Grampa was on with the other residences of Springfield Retirement Castle. Instead in this he stays in Bart's treehouse.
- This episode really made Simpson fans think Marge and Homer were going to get a divorce.
Citations
- Homer sings the end of the theme song to Family Ties while talking to an administrator at the annex center.
- Smithers' marriage flashback parodies two plays: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Streetcar Named Desire, both written by Tennessee Williams.
- In Homer's rant to Marge while in their bedroom, he says this:
- "Look Marge, you don't know what it's like. I'm the one out there every day putting his ass on the line. And I'm not out of order! You're out of order. The whole freaking system is out of order. You want the truth? You want the truth? You can't handle the truth! 'Cause when you reach over and put your hand into a pile of goo that was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do! Forget it, Marge, it's Chinatown."
- All of his lines are paraphrased from four popular films: ...And Justice for All (1979), A Few Good Men (1992), Patton (1970), and Chinatown (1974).
Goofs
- Surely, Miss Hoover shouldn't be stupid to believe that she can cross the red signal just because she is a teacher.
- Also she wouldn't be able to hear Homer saying it from his car as her car windows were closed
- When Homer is explaining how an orange is a lot like marriage, Barney Gumble is seen sitting next to Groundskeeper Willie, but when the camera pans over to Willie saying, "If I wanted to see a man eat an orange..." Barney is no longer in his seat.
- When Moe lands the backflip in his "Funk Dancing for Self-Defense" class, he cuts in front of the desk.
- In the same scene, he fires a double-barreled shotgun three times.
