- The title is a reference to the song Use to Be My Girl.
- Lisa pointing out to Marge that "the Juice is still on the loose" is a reference to OJ Simpson being acquitted of the alleged murder of his wife and her partner.

- However, SpongeBob is voiced by Dan Castellaneta in this episode, possibly because the show couldn't pay to guest star Tom Kenny, the character's real voice actor.

Goofs[]
- In earlier episodes, Mount Springfield is a forest hill but in this episode, it is a volcano.
- It could be possible that it is not the same location but just a volcano that just has the same name as the forest hill.
- Chloe is right that when molten rock flows underground, it is known as magma. However, the river of lava is visible from the ground and exposed to air, so it would be referred to as lava.
