Silas Simpson

Silas Simpson was a mid-18^th century legendary "Boxing Oaf of Northumberland."

He was a member of the Simpson family with unspecified relation to the present-day Springfield Simpsons.

Moe convinces Homer to become a boxer and Grampa Simpson brings out his scrapbook with a sketching of Silas Simpson along with boxing ancestor Gentleman Jim Simpson to show that boxing is the destiny of all Simpson men.

Silas Simpson's sketching based on the portrait by John Hamilton Mortimer of Jack Broughton who wrote the Broughton Rules in 1743.
Silas Simpson's name is similar to Sven Simpson, Homer's 5x great-grandfather in the Simpsons Family Tree from "The Simpsons Uncensored Family Album".
