Silas Simpson was a mid-18th century legendary "Boxing Oaf of Northumberland."
He was a member of the Simpson family with unspecified relation to the present-day Springfield Simpsons.
Moe convinces Homer to become a boxer and Grampa Simpson brings out his scrapbook with a sketching of Silas Simpson along with boxing ancestor Gentleman Jim Simpson to show that boxing is the destiny of all Simpson men.
