Trivia[]

  • This is the first time Bart says his catchphrase, "Cowabunga." The phrase had been previously been used in 1950s episodes of The Howdy Doody Show and was also popular in the surf culture. Ironically, the phrase was also used at the time by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise. In addition to using the world Cowabunga on the animated cartoon which was airing on CBS at the time this Simpsons short aired on The Tracey Ullman Show, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles also frequently used more skateboards known as Cheapskates after this aired. The franchise would later would air programming on Fox. Bart would even appear on a cup containing an antidote to nuclear mutagen in the 1991 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle film Secret of the Ooze, which, like its sequel Turtles In Time, would have international film distribution rights owned by Fox.
  • Homer and Marge do not appear in this episode.
  • In this short Lisa is a good skateboarder. However, in "Summer of 4 Ft. 2" and "Jazzy and the Pussycats" she is a terrible skateboarder.
  • The Simpson family has a doghouse in this short, implying that it may have set after the family got Santa's Little Helper. Santa's Little Helper did not appear in any of the shorts and debuted in the 1989 Christmas special Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire.
