  • The billboard is in reference to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • This would mark the 1st time ever Bart addresses to his mother as "Marge" (her 1st name) rather than "mom". The person he normally does this gimmick to is Homer, who is his father.
  • When Lisa is given detention, the screen features her doing her famous dance from Radio Bart.
  • Ms. Hoover is shown to live in a shoddy apartment in this episode, yet she has been seen with her own house.
  • This is the first episode written by Nell Scovell since the second season episode "One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish".
  • During the rerun on January 31st, 2021, a dedication was made for Larry King who died on January 23rd, 2021.
  • In the ending scene, the "Lisa's at Yale" is a reference to Season 5, Episode 1: "Homer's Barbershop Quartet". The song, "Lisa's at Yale" is a reference to "Baby on Board".
  • Kevin Michael Richardson voices Bleeding Gums Murphy in this episode. This is notable as this is one of the first times a character has been re-cast following the death of their original voice actor (even though he had been killed off before the death of Ron Taylor).

  • Homer’s World War I dream is a parody of Peanuts character Snoopy fighting his nemesis, the Red Baron.
  • In the end credits, Wendell was seen with a board reading "Famous Pale People" which included Casper the Friendly Ghost, the Michelin Man, the Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters, and the Pillsbury Doughboy.
