Spinal Tap or Spin̈al Tap is a fictional band consisting of equally fictional members David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer). They made their mark as the stars of the hit mockumentary This is Spinal Tap. McKean, Guest and Shearer reprised their roles in The Otto Show.

In "The Otto Show," Bart and Milhouse attend a Spinal Tap concert, which quickly became a comedy of errors, degenerating into a riot started by Snake. Their show still impresses Bart enough for him to want to become a rock guitarist. Homer and Marge buy Bart his own electric guitar, which he struggles to learn how to play.

The next morning on the school bus, Bart tells Otto he thinks his guitar is broken, and Otto—with the bus still stopped in traffic—wows his passengers with an impromptu concert, thoughtlessly clogging up the road. Otto loses track of time and is forced to drive recklessly to school. Otto's bus runs Spinal Tap’s bus off the road, which crashes and bursts into flames (possibly killing them). According to the writers, this scene was not in the original script, and was added because they felt the band's final scene was not interesting enough.[1]
