The Springfield Retirement Castle, built in 1929, sometimes called Springfield Retirement Home, is a location located at 2001 Creaking Oak Drive. It is Springfield's retirement home for the elderly.
Its address is 100 Veterans Avenue, Springfield, NT 49010.[1]
History[]
Some noted residents of the Castle include Abraham "Grampa" J. Simpson, his neighbor, Jasper Beardly, and Molloy. At one point, Abe Simpson had a neighbor named Zelda, whom he pursued by stealing Homer's car and driving to Branson, MO. Another flame of his, Beatrice Simmons made the Retirement Castle her last home. Other long-term or temporary occupants include the Old Jewish Man, Hans Moleman, and even Homer Simpson.
Medication[]
In one episode, the administration of the Retirement Castle stopped distributing pills to its residents, shortly after Mr. Burns canceled the health care program at his power plant. This caused Homer and Abe to go to Canada and get the badly needed medicine.
Loneliness[]
To Abraham Simpson, the Retirement Castle is a lonely place to be. He often gets mad when his family doesn't come and visit him. The door features a sign reading 'Thank you for not discussing the outside world'. The main fun to be had in the home is to "stake yourself out a good spot at the staring window", which overlooks nothing but a barren tree, and bingo (prize: a banana).
Nature[]
The home is very strict in what the seniors can and cannot do. Have fun for example. Abraham Simpson comment, "That's the activity room. We're not allowed in there. That's the library. Not allowed in there either. And don't even think about going into the game room." Given the attitude of the staff this is likely so they don't have to work any harder than they want to. Although sometimes the staff allows in youth groups to entertain the elderly and go through a varying degree of holiday spirit from hosting a Thanksgiving dinner to stapling one holiday icon after the other next to the calendar.
Staff[]
The staff of the care home couldn't care less for the people they are supposed to be looking after and make as little effort as possible to ensure the health and happiness of them, doing things like vacuuming their hair during "nap time", or switching their IV sacks with their catheter sacks when the former is empty and the latter is full. At one point, the Simpsons come to visit Grandpa with Santa's Little Helper, who leapt out of the car and ran in as they pulled up. Lisa commented, "He must smell leftovers," and a nearby tenant said "Please, we prefer senior citizen." When the seniors get a Zii the nurses are forced to actually work and destroy it. However, the staff does on occasion show some respect for the residents. When Montgomery Burns' hitman tried to shoot Abe Simpson with a machine gun, the head nurse pulled out a shotgun and returned fire toward the would-be killer, saying "Our residents are trying to nap" in between her shots.
Volunteers like Lisa or Bart sometimes come to help seniors and less-caring adult staff. On occasions, there are good hearted staff members.
Redecoration and Destruction[]
In the episode "Old Money" Grandpa inherits $106,000 which he uses to refurbish and redecorate the home. Also, when Mr. Burns' was doing his slant drilling operation, in the episode "Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part One)", the ground below the Springfield Retirement Castle caved in as a result of the imbalance caused by the drilling, causing the Retirement castle to be heavily damaged, and forcing the senior citizens to go to their families or away from the home at the very least, until the necessary repairs were completed. Because of this, Abraham Simpson swore to get revenge on Mr. Burns.[2]

Behind the Laughter[]
- In "Million Dollar Maybe", Lisa gives the Retirement Castle a Funtendo Zii which is a parody of the game console Nintendo Wii.
- Other residents include Jasper, Gladys, Beatrice, Hatty, Asa and Prudence.[3]
- In "The Old Man and the "C" Student", when Bart was ordered to perform community service for costing Springfield the Olympics, it was discovered Lisa had been at the center doing her community service for at least a year. Unlike Bart, she willingly volunteered.
- In the first few episodes of Season 1, it is called Springfield Retirement Home.
- A sign outside the Retirement Castle says "Thank you for not discussing the outside world."
- In some episodes, Abraham Simpson hates the place, but in other episodes he enjoyed living there. In one episode, where Homer force him to move in with him to save money, Grampa didn't want to leave because Homer promised him that he can pass on there.
- In "Bart vs. Thanksgiving", if any of the residents go out for the day and aren't back by 9 PM, they'll be declared legally dead and the home will have access to the person's insurance.
