Star Wars is a science fiction franchise originally developed from the 1977 film Star Wars written and directed by George Lucas. It has been referenced numerous times on the show.

And one spaceship entering Bart through his left ear and then blasting its way out of his right ear, parodies the Rebels blowing up the main reactor of the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi.
  • In the segment "Citizen Kang", Bob Dole and Bill Clinton are captured in the tubes that are similar to the Bacta Tank from The Empire Strikes Back.

  • The logo on the "Mars" part of the Knowledgeum uses the same font as in the Star Wars logo.
X-Wing - Star Wars 10 206 "Bart the Mother" One of the prizes in the Arcade in the Family Fun Center available to be won in the arcade is an X-Wing toy.

  • In an advertisement for the Sci-Fi convention, C-3PO and R2-D2 are described as "the gay robots from Star Wars" and shown in a tag-team wrestling match with two Cylons from Battlestar Galactica.
  • A man wearing a costume of Chewbacca appears in the convention.
  • Mark Hamill (who plays Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars series) guest-stars as himself in the episode. He speaks at the Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con and later stars as Nathan Detroit in a local production of the musical Guys and Dolls. To his dismay, Hamill is forced to play the part as Luke Skywalker and sing a song called "Luke, Be a Jedi", a parody of "Luck be a Lady Tonight".
  • During Mark Hamill's presentation on long-distance savings, Database tells him "Daaah, talk about Star Wars!"
  • When Homer fights Louie, Hamill advises him to "Use the forks!", a pun on the tagline "Use the Force" from the Star Wars films.
Car - Star Wars 10 213 "Viva Ned Flanders" Comic Book Guy has a bumper sticker which says "My other car is the Millenium Falcon", given to him by a Harrison Ford look-alike.
Star Wars Poster 11 229 "Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner?" The famous Hildebrandt Brothers Star Wars poster of Princess Leia, Luke and his outstretched lightsaber is seen at Planet Springfield.
Double-edged Light Saber 11 230 "Treehouse of Horror X" The Collector asks Xena to call him Obi-Wan. Later, he battles her using Darth Maul's double-bladed lightsaber after taking it out of its box.
Springfield Googolplex Theatres 11 231 "E-I-E-I-D'oh" One of films playing at the Springfield Googolplex Theatres is "My Dinner with Jar Jar", a reference to Jar Jar Binks and to the movie "My Dinner with Andre".
Patty Selma Force 11 247 "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Marge" Patty says to Lisa, "the bitterness is strong in this one", a reference to Darth Vader's line "the Force is strong in this one".
Comic Book Guy - Star Wars 12 259 "Worst Episode Ever" Martha Prince shows Comic Book Guy a box containing Star Wars memorabilia, including a handwritten script for Star Wars by George Lucas, Princess Leia's anti-jiggle breast tape, and a film reel labeled "Alternate ending: Luke's Father is Chewbacca". Comic Book Guy, exploiting the fact that Martha is ignorant of the items' worth, offers five dollars, but Bart and Milhouse warn her that he is ripping her off.
Duffman holding his boss 12 263 "Hungry, Hungry Homer" Duffman's hesitation and looking back and forth between Homer and H.K. Duff, that ends with Duffman lifting Mr. Duff over his head and throwing him over the fence, resembles the scene from Return of the Jedi where Darth Vader looks back and forth between his son Luke and his master, Emperor Palpatine, that ends with lifting Emperor over his head and throwing him into the Death Star II's chasm.
Master Yoda 13 270 "Treehouse of Horror XII" Yoda performs the Leprechaun's and Gypsy's wedding ceremony.
Star Wars Monopoly Game 13 276 "Brawl in the Family" When the family are forced to stay indoors because of acid rain, they play Monopoly, and one of the versions of the game they own is Star Wars Monopoly.
Comic Book Guy Bedroom 13 279 "Half-Decent Proposal" Comic Book Guy's bedroom is bristling with Star Wars items, including a picture of Yoda, signed portraits of Mark Hamill in both Star Wars: A New Hope and Return of the Jedi outfits, a lightsaber, a life-sized Storm Trooper replica, Star Wars bedding, Chewbacca pajamas, and a Jar-Jar Binks doll which he clutches in bed and tells "Oh Jar Jar, everyone hates you but me."
Dr. Hibbert as Darth Vader 13 286 "Gump Roast" Julius Hibbert is arrested for wearing a Darth Vader costume, thus violating a local ordinance against impersonating movie characters. Also, the Imperial March plays when Mr. Burns is introduced on stage during the roast of Homer Simpson.

  • Bart duels Skinner (with a Peanut on a stick and a Shrimp on a stick, respectively) in the style of a lightsaber duel. The final battle theme from The Phantom Menace, Duel of the Fates, is played as they fight through the town and both eventually fall into a vat of Peanutted Shrimp. Later in hospital the music reprises as the two throw Peanuts and Shrimp at each other. Their fall maybe reference to Darth Maul's death, if Obi-Wan Kenobi had killed Maul and fell that would look a bit same as in the episode.
Not seen list 18 385 "Ice Cream of Margie (with the Light Blue Hair)" While the family searches for Marge, Comic Book Guy tells them that she is in his "not seen" list, which also includes "a Star Wars film that's been good, since the first one. And even that's been ruined with CGI editions. Bravo George."

The name and cover of the VHS and DVD is a reference to the Star Wars film The Empire Strikes Back. There is Bart as Luke Skywalker fighting Homer as Darth Vader on the cover. Coincidentally, the same film was also notorious for the reveal that Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father.
