The steel mill workers are the employees of the Ajax Steel Mill. They appear to be hardworking individuals, most (if not all) of whom are openly gay.

During a factory tour, they waved hello to Homer and Bart. Factory manager Roscoe informed the two that the workers worked hard and played hard. Then, during break time, the steel mill became a nightclub titled The Anvil, and all employees appeared to participate in dancing. This scared Homer out of the mill, running away and taking Bart with him.
