- The title is a reference to the 1994 action comedy film by 20th Century Fox (Studios) directed by James Cameron "True Lies".
- "Dude vs. Food" TV show is a parody of "Man vs. Food".
- Chew Network is a parody of Food Network.
- Luigi's line, "We asked could we make it, we never asked should we make it" about 17-pound meatball is referencing Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum)'s line in Steven Spielberg directed "Jurassic Park".
- Rival gangs trading their youngest sons was based on a storyline from the 4th season of the TV show "Fargo".
- When setting up the flashback, Fat Tony refers to the Springfield Mafia as "This Thing of Ours." "This Thing of Ours" (in Italian "Cosa Nostra") originally referred specifically to the Sicilian Mafia and now more generally to Italian American Mafia.
