"Stop, or My Dog Will Shoot!" |
|
Cultural references[]
- The title is a reference to the extremely unsuccessful, Golden Raspberry Awards-winning movie Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot!
- The song played when Santa's Little Helper looks for Homer in the maze is KoЯn's Freak on a Leash. The scene follows Santa's Little Helper's path; the video for "Freak on a Leash" follows the path of a bullet.
- In Bart's vision, Santa's Little Helper becomes a dog version of RoboCop and shoots down Jason Voorhees and Pinhead from Friday the 13th and Hellraiser movie franchises respectively, along with a giant living mathematics book.
- The last line of the show is Groundskeeper Willie after he adopted the python, saying, "That'll do, snake. That'll do." This is a parody of a famous line from the 1995 film, Babe.
- This would be later again referenced by Homer in Mona Leaves-a as he says "That'll do, brick. That'll do".
- The song playing in the background as Santa's Little Helper goes through police dog training is the theme from the 1970s crime drama series S.W.A.T.
- Lisa suggesting that Santa's Little Helper barks for novelty Christmas records is a reference to Don Charles' version of "Jingle Bells" from 1955, popularized further through Dr. Demento's radio programs.
- Marge notices the display of First Ladies made from pine cones and Homer wants the hell where are among Abigail Adams then Mary Todd Lincoln then Ida Sexton McKinley each time immediately finding them himself. He is interrupted before he can kept going.

Trivia[]
- This episode was held back due to the Virginia Tech shooting, as the episode features gun references and a school emergency calling for an evacuation.
- The episode was originally supposed to have an appearance by former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani (voiced by the man himself), but was cut because Giuliani was preparing to run for President at the time and having him appear on the show would break equal time laws. The premiere replaced the scene with Chief Wiggum giving a speech at Santa's Little Helper's police dog graduation. The Giuliani scene has since been reinstated in reruns (on free-to-air and cable TV), on the season 18 DVD set, and on streaming platforms that carry Simpsons episodes (Amazon Prime Video and Disney+).
- Principal Skinner's instruction for the children to line up according to their last name if each letter were assigned a numeric value based on its position in the alphabet places Simpson (104) between Muntz (94) and VanHouten (120).
- In the episode, ethanol and nitric acid are mixed and produce a toxic gas presumed to be NO2. But in reality, it makes an explosive mixture.
Continuity[]
- "Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie": Homer's in-depth knowledge of U.S. First Ladies is similar to his knowledge of Chief Justices of the Supreme Court.
- "Dog of Death" and "Old Yeller Belly": Santa's Little Helper gets a job (becomes Mr. Burns' attack dog/becomes the new Duff Beer mascot/becomes a police dog).
- The last time Bart had a wild animal for a pet, which he names after his attack method and attacks Homer was in "Bart Gets an Elephant."
Goofs[]
- This episode is titled "Stop! Or My Dog Will Shoot!" instead of "Stop, or My Dog Will Shoot!" on Disney+.

- In the shot showing students outside of the school after the snake came out of Mrs. Krabappel's class, Becky's legs as well as another girl next to her are missing, but right of them, a girl's body dissapears.
