Cultural References[]
- The episode title parodies the 2004 documentary film Super Size Me by Morgan Spurlock, which was released ten years before this episode aired.
- During the Cat Stevens couch gag, "Tea for the Tillerman" by Cat Stevens plays.
- The scene where Bart spills hot coffee on Homer's groin parodies McDonald's hot coffee lawsuit, where Stella Liebeck was awarded 2.9 million dollars when she suffered third-degree burns in her pelvic region after accidentally spilling hot coffee in her lap.
- Ned's line, "Got any other sockets in my pockets?", is a reference to the book, "I've Got a Wocket in my Pocket" by Dr. Seuss.
- Ned has Tom Selleck's mustache flattener, referencing both him and "Magnum P.I.".
- The first shot of the picnic scene right after Marge gets her original investment back is a reference to the painting, "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte", by the French post-impressionist painter George Seurat. Also, a portion of "La Vie en rose" plays at the beginning of this scene.
Trivia[]
- One of the areas of Flanders' house is the Beatles Bunker. This is a reference to "The Bart of War", where it is revealed that Ned is a huge fan of the Beatles.
- Ned's clock has 9,678 minutes to the rapture.
- After Marge says that Mother Hubbard Central expects you to buy a lot of stuff from them and that they don't care if you make money as long as they make money, she asks what kind of corporation does that. This causes a blue Fox logo to pop up next to Marge, while the 20th Century Fox theme plays. This is a reference to Fox not caring if people make money as long as Fox makes money.
- Just Stamp The Ticket Man appears in this episode with grey hair.
Goofs[]
- When Ned confronts Homer over stealing his electricity, the cord he is holding disappears for a frame.
- The reason why Marge made the sandwiches was to use up Homer's meat. However, not all of the sandwiches contained meat; when Marge brings in the sandwiches to show the rest of the family, wrapped sandwiches labeled "P.B." (peanut butter) and "PB&J" (peanut butter and jelly) are clearly visible.
- At the end of the episode, Edna Krabappel is seen at the lake, despite being deceased and the passing of her voice actress, Marcia Wallace.
- Ned is seen painting with his right hand, despite being left handed.
