"Non-Canon"?[]

What is the source that the episode is non-canon? When Al Jean was specifically asked if it was non-canon, he did NOT say that it was. TJ Spyke (talk) 21:34, August 4, 2015 (UTC)

Is The Episode Canon?[]

This is a complicated question to answer. Al Jean has said that the episode is canon [1], but fans may generally agree that it isn't. For one, it is a bit outlandish for a normal episode of The Simpsons, which "The Man Who Came to Be Dinner" was also criticized for. The episode implies that The Simpsons and Futurama take place in the same timeline, although both shows have contradicted this; notably, the human characters in Futurama do not have yellow skin. These same arguments justify why "The Simpsons Guy" is generally considered non-canon as well.

The episode ends with Bender powering off and staying in the Simpsons basement until he wakes up in the future. He makes non-speaking cameos in the Season 27 episode "Cue Detective" and Season 29 episode "Throw Grampa from the Dane", but has not appeared again since. One may argue that these are merely references and aren't actually canon, but this goes against Jean's claim that Bender would remain there.
