Purpose

Provides the opening code for a table that displays quotations. To be used in conjuction with Template:Q and Template:Q-end.

The Q template can be used as many times as needed to add a person speaking or a description. Parameters are as follows:

  • The first parameter is the name of the person speaking. The name is automatically bolded and has a colon added after it. Keep the name short since this part of the table is fixed at a width of 100px.
  • The second parameter is for what they are saying.
  • If the third parameter is present and set to span or y, this will signal that it is a description that should take up the entire line. In this case only the first parameter is used and the second one is ignored, so leave it blank. No special formatting is automatically added. See Example 2 below of how to leave the second parameter blank and that it uses italics for the description text.

Example 1

{{Q-start}}
{{Q|Homer|Mmmm. Duff Beer.}}
{{Q-end}}

Output:

Homer:   D'oh!

Example 2

{{Q-start}}
{{Q|Chief Wiggum|Homer Simpson, you're under arrest for driving a backhoe
through Ned's backyard and crushing his rosebushes.}}
{{Q|''Homer tries to run away and steps on a rake.''| |span}}
{{Q|Homer|D'oh!}}
{{Q|Nelson|Ha-ha!}}
{{Q-end}}

Output:

Chief Wiggum:   Homer Simpson, you're under arrest for driving a backhoe through Ned's backyard and crushing his rosebushes.
Homer tries to run away and steps on a rake.
Homer:   D'oh!
Nelson:   Ha-ha!
