• Forward to the Past is a parody of the 1985 classic science fiction film Back to the Future.
• The song that plays during closing credits is Ooh La La by The Faces.
• The title is a reference to a 2007 film, The Darjeeling Limited.

Trivia

• This was the first episode to air in 2021.
• This is the first episode to have Jenny Yokobori as the voice of Kumiko, previously voiced by Tress MacNeille. This is part of the push to have actors/actresses of color to voice characters of color, rather than white actors/actresses performing all roles.
• Homer mentions “Ow, that's where I had my surgery!”, in reference to his heart surgery in "Homer's Triple Bypass" (and possibly the four simultaneous heart attacks he had on "The Old Man and the Lisa")
• In a cut line, Marge asked for ramen (with ranch).
• Postage Stamp Fellow was originally going to have a voice similar to that of Sideshow Bob's.

• The door position was inverted at Maggie's bedroom when Kumiko went to Maggie to comfort her. Later, the door position returned to normal.

• During the flashback to Jeff's childhood, Biclops (first seen in "Worst Episode Ever") can be seen in the pile of unsold comic books, even though the superhero isn't supposed to exist yet.
