The title is a reference to 2022 film The Banshees of Inisherin. The plots of the episode and the movie have parallels, as they both involve a man refusing to speak to his longtime friend, with tension arising when the latter friend still tries to make him talk. The Simpsons' neighbor Mrs. McCormick who delivers ominous predictions is also a character in The Banshees of Inisherin.
During the U-completeamine hallucination, Homer and Ned morph into several "famous duos":
Itchy and Scratchy.
Buzz Lightyear and Sheriff Woody from Toy Story.
Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street.
Batman and Robin from DC Comics.
Mr. Burns and Smithers.
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel of Simon & Garfunkel.
Chewbacca and Han Solo from Star Wars.
He-Man and Skeletor from Masters of the Universe.
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy of Laurel & Hardy.
Tattoo and Mr. Roarke from Fantasy Island.
Garfield and Odie from Garfield.
Daryl Hall and John Oates of Hall & Oates.
Napoleon Dynamite and Pedro Sánchez from Napoleon Dynamite.
Jesse Pinkman and Walter White from Breaking Bad.
Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings.
Pikachu and Ash Ketchum from Pokémon.
Lucy Van Pelt and Charlie Brown from Peanuts: they recreate the usual scene where Charlie slips after Lucy removes the ball.
The large fight scene is a parody of the battle in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
Song Mash-Up[]
The end credits feature a mash-up of several songs (and snippets of songs) from previous episodes. In order of when they first appear in the mix, they are:
This is the first new episode that premiered on network TV in 2025. While "The Past and the Furious" technically counts as the first new episode of 2025, it premiered as a streaming exclusive episode on Disney+ rather than on network television.
The song mash-up notably includes voice work from the late Phil Hartman for the first time since "Bart the Mother", his last episode before his death.
Because he gave Homer his usual green sweater, Ned wears a blue sweater for most of the episode until Homer returns his green one at the end.
Goofs[]
There are two Lewis Clarks during Bart's DJ party.
It could be possible that Lewis has a twin brother.
