Cultural References[]

  • The title of this episode is a reference to Tim Allen's ABC American TV series Last Man Standing.
  • Othinquic, which sounds like "o' thin quick", is a parody of the weight-loss drug Ozempic: Luigi even calls it by its actual name at one point.
  • Othinquic is imported from Denmark and the Othinquic pen is voiced by Danish actress Sidse Babett Knudsen. The real Ozempic is made in Kalundborg, Denmark by Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk.
  • Opal and The Opal Show are parodies of Oprah Winfrey and in particular her struggles over her weight and her being public about her own use of Ozempic. Other references to Oprah Winfrey included:
  • Wrong-Aid is a reference to the drugstore chain Rite Aid.
  • Lenny and Carl discuss a woman named Diane who used to work at the bar and replaced by another woman named Rebecca, and how leaving would kill her career, referencing Shelley Long quitting her role as Diane Chambers on Cheers while Kirstie Alley then joined Cheers main cast as Rebecca Howe.

Previous Episodes References[]

  • The breaking of the fourth wall when Luigi "mistakenly" calls the weight loss drug Ozempic instead of Othinquic is similar to Homer saying Peloton instead of its parody "Pedalon" before correcting himself. ("One Angry Lisa")
    • It also happened in "Treehouse of Horror XXVIII" during the opening segment where the Simpsons, sans Lisa, are Halloween candy: Bart is a "Barterfinger", but Homer accidentally calls him "Butterfinger".
  • Fat Tony says he does not cheat on anybody, except he does cheat on his wife. ("The Real Housewives of Fat Tony" and "The Fat Blue Line")
  • Another thinly veiled parody of Diane Chambers from Cheers was Moe's former cocktail waitress who left to pursue a movie career: when talking about her to Homer, Moe said "Frankly, I think she was better off here." ("Flaming Moe's")

Trivia[]

  • The Othinquic pen is voiced by Danish actress Sidse Babett Knudsen who previously guest voiced in "Throw Grampa from the Dane".
  • Running Gag: Characters insisting that they lost weight through "diet and exercise". The first time this phrase appears is when Comic Book Guy mentions that he refuses to partake in them to lose weight.
  • Bumblebee Man, Chalmers, and Sideshow Mel wave the following flags after Homer's speech:
    • "Live Fat or Die", as a reference to "Live Free or Die", the state motto of New Hampshire.
    • "This Frosting Doesn't Run", as a reference to the phrase "These Colors Don't Run".
    • "Make Bread On Me", as a reference to the phrase Don't Tread on Me.
  • Chief Wiggum mentions wanting to have more "Ralphies", including one that looks even more like Eddie, who nervously shifts his eyes in response. A non-canon joke that Eddie is Ralph's real father appears in "Lisa the Boy Scout".

Goofs[]

  • Opal's boyfriend is named Steadfast, but in Season 19's "Husbands and Knives" Opal's boyfriend was named Straightman.
    • It could be a different boyfriend, or the name could have been retconned to parody Stedman a bit better.
