- The name is a reference to the film Last Action Hero. It also shares the same name with an Itchy & Scratchy Show episode.
- The Rich Texan refers to Mr. Burns as "Davy Crockett".
- The parrots and tikis appearing from Mr. Burns' office are a reference to the Disneyland attraction "Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room".
- When Bart throws a sledgehammer at a screen showing Lisa's face (as well as Bart being decapitated by said sledgehammer after it harmlessly bounced back from the screen), is a reference to the commercial 1984, aired during the Super Bowl XVIII that introduced the Macintosh computer.
- This scene was referenced in "MyPods and Boomsticks".
- Lisa's uniform as bus monitor is a reference to Tilda Swindon's character Minister Mason in the movie Snowpiercer.

- The "Reserved for Montgomery Burns"' sign only appeared when Carl mentioned it.
- Bart's "Father, good luck" signature on Homer's cast disappears between scenes.
- The filing cabinet in Skinner's office (when he hands Lisa the Bus Monitor sash) is missing drawers for letters I and J. Most filing systems do omit letters if there are no students or staff with the last name that starts with that letter. Normally, it's the letters like Q, X, and Z.
