Cultural References[]
- The title of this episode is a reference to the 1956 Paramount film The Man Who Knew Too Much, which was also parodied by Season 5 episode title "The Boy Who Knew Too Much".
- Much of the episode is a reference to the Paramount and Touchstone Pictures movie Alive which was based on the true story of a Uruguayan rugby team onboard a plane that crashed in the Andes and were lost for 72 days.
- The film was previously referenced in the episode "Fear of Flying".
- The Channel 6 News field reporter is very similar to Linda van Schoonhoven from fellow series Futurama; both characters are voiced by Tress MacNeille.
- On Ned Flanders' Map of Heaven includes St. Peter's Log Flume (formerly Song of the South) a reference to Splash Mountain log flume ride at Disneyland originally being based around the movie Song of the South.
- The couch gag social media account is a reference to the real-life Out of Context Simpsons Couch Gags, found on Twitter and Instagram as @OOCCouchGags.[1]

- Additionally, Mona being in hell instead of in heaven (which was revealed in "Todd, Todd, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?") is similar to how Marge's father originally appeared in heaven, and then appeared later in hell.
- Starting with this episode, Chris Edgerly replaces Pamela Hayden as the voice of Rod Flanders. Meanwhile, Milhouse only has a silent appearance, and it is unknown who will voice him in future episodes.
- Homer had previously had trouble getting up or down a tall mountain in the episodes "Mountain of Madness" and "King of the Hill".
