Full story[]
Following a montage of bowling games at Barney's Bowlarama, Homer excitedly wakes up, exclaiming that today is the "big day". He heads out with the Pin Pals as they prepare to compete in the state championship. At the town square, the team celebrates their victory alongside Mayor Quimby, with the entire town expressing pride in their achievement. Homer encourages his family to say their goodbyes before the Pin Pals depart on a helicopter piloted by Barney Gumble.
As the plane ascends and flies over a mountain peak, an alarm suddenly blares, indicating the aircraft is overloaded. Before the inevitable crash, Homer attempts to call Marge to say goodbye, but she does not answer. When he tries to leave a voicemail, it turns out that her mailbox is full. The helicopter crashes on the mountain peak, leaving the team stranded.
At the Springfield Police Station, Marge grows increasingly worried about Homer's disappearance. Meanwhile, Ned Flanders notices that Fausto is struggling to breathe and heroically carries him down the mountain in a manner reminiscent of Jesus. On the descent, Moe receives a phone call from Bart, who is searching for Homer. Assuming it's a prank call, Moe insults Bart and angrily throws his phone far down the mountain, though the phone service remains active. The rest of the group criticizes Moe because he was the only one with phone service.
The family continues trying to reach Homer, but to no avail. Back on the mountain, while hiking down, Carl nearly falls into a deep chasm. The group begins hallucinating, imagining the sound of pins being struck as they peer into the abyss. Future hallucinations involve Moe seeing Fausto and Flanders as food, because he believes the group will resort to cannibalism next.
Meanwhile, in Springfield, Marge begins setting up Christmas decorations in October, hoping the festive spirit will cheer Homer up when he returns. Bart and Lisa join in, with Lisa mentioning that children are only as happy as their "saddest parent". Kent Brockman tries to exploit the family's despair, demanding that his camera operator zoom in on them, but she refuses.
Back in the mountains, the situation worsens as everybody's health deteriorates. Fausto appears to recover briefly before succumbing, and the group collapses, covering themselves with snow for warmth.
At the Simpson house, Chief Wiggum arrives with news about the crash, essentially telling Marge that everybody has passed away without using those exact words. Patty and Selma visit next, presenting Marge with AI-generated images of a deceased Homer to get her used to the idea; they have humorously had these images long before the incident. However, Marge still has hope that Homer is still alive.
On the mountain, Homer hallucinates seeing his mother, Mona, who claims she is in hell. As Marge prepares Homer's favorite dishes back home, the aroma somehow reaches him, giving him the strength to dig himself out of the snow. Homer uses a rope to rescue the others, and they ALL make their way back to Springfield.
At the church, during a funeral service for the presumed deceased Pin Pals, Reverend Lovejoy delivers a speech, noting Homer's lack of religious devotion. However, Homer and the others arrive just in time. Everybody celebrates them, as well as Homer's good deed with Flanders hugging Homer for his heroism and bravery.
In the epilogue, Fausto arrives at the church, revealing that he is alive after all. However, Lovejoy tells him that he does not have to make a "meal" out of it. During the credits, a montage of scenes from the episode plays.
