Cultural References[]

  • The episode name is a reference to the 1963 novel The Man Who Fell to Earth, which was adapted into a 1976 film and a 1987 television program.
  • When Bart turns off auto-pilot in the Electric Car, the steering wheel folds out in the same way as in the 1993 film Demolition Man.
  • In Elon's spacecraft at the end, it is shown on a monitor that he is playing The Simpsons: Tapped Out.
  • The song playing during the credits is "Starman" by David Bowie.
    • David Bowie had also starred as the leading role of an alien named Thomas Jerome Newton, in The Man Who Fell to Earth. Coincidentally, the title of the episode is also a reference to the movie Bowie starred in.
  • This episode has no Opening Sequence. Like "Sideshow Bob Roberts", it just go to the TV set showing "Created by: Matt Groening." "Developed by James L. Brooks, Matt Groening, Sam Simon." Making this the third time since "The Great Simpsina" (but without The Simpsons logo and begins with the Simpsons go peach picking) to have that occur.
  • This is the 13th episode to not include a couch gag.

Trivia[]

  • It is revealed that Bart came up with Maggie's name.
