The Ren & Stimpy Show was an animated series which originally aired on Nickelodeon from 1991 to 1995 and was parodied throughout Season 4. References are made in the episodes "Brother from the Same Planet" and "The Front" and makes a cameo in the Season 6 episode "Another Simpsons Clip Show". The show's season premiere was nominated for Best Writing in a Cartoon Series in "The Front." At the Annual Cartoon Awards, the clip from The Ren & Stimpy Show is a black screen saying "clip not done yet" which was a counter attack against Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi, who said that "the show succeeded despite the writing", and was notorious for missing deadlines, leading to him being fired by Nickelodeon part-way into the show's production.

In "Brother from the Same Planet", both Ren and Stimpy were voiced by Dan Castellaneta instead of Billy West.
