Cultural References

  • The red green and blue potions are a reference to the Legend of Zelda. They both have the same effect and even cost the same amout of rupees.
  • The Polyjuice potion is a reference to Harry Potter.
  • The title of this episode is a wordplay on The Simpsons and the word "serf".
  • Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's character Markery has an inappropriate relationship with Marge Serfson, similar to his character Jamie Lannister from Game of Thrones.
  • The end credits sequence is in the style that was seen at the conclusion of The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies that featured several sketches. In addition, Billy Boyd, popular for playing the role of Pippin in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has an off-screen role in this episode where he performed the end credits song that parodies the song "The Last Goodbye" he previously sang in the end credits to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

Trivia

  • This is the third time that a season premiere is in October instead of September. The first time being Season 2's "Bart Gets an "F"", and the second time being Season 8's "Treehouse of Horror VII".
  • According to Matt Selman, this episode is a love letter to various stories.
  • Springfield Splendor was originally going to be the Season 29 premiere, but for reasons unknown (possibly due to changing the order of episodes), this episode became the premiere instead.
  • The episode was released early on demand on Spectrum. The reason why is completely unknown, but it shouldn't be released before October 1, which means that releasing an episode early before the scheduled airdate is illegal.
  • This is the first episode to not show the Gracie Films logo at the end of the credits, due to a still frame of the entire cast of The Simpsons with a Puerto Rico flag.
  • Another prank call to Moe's was My Lady Gwendolyn Parts. Moe asks if anyone has seen 'My Lady Parts'. This is the first episode since "The Simpsons Guy" to feature a prank call for Moe.
  • First time to have music composed by Bleeding Fingers Music, after Alf Clausen, who began composing since 1990, was fired on August 30, 2017.
