Captain Thomas Audra Gurney Jr. (born October 1, 1897 - Jun 5, 1942) also known as Great-Grandpa-Gurney or simply known as Thomas Gurney was one of the earliest Gurney family members to be alive. He never appeared in an episode yet. He was the father of Ferdinand Gurney, the husband of Ingrid Gurney (nee Woods), the paternal grandfather of Gladys Gurney, Jacqueline Gurney and Lou Gurney.

Military Career and Death

Thomas served in the navy during World War II while on duty he met a woman named Ingrid Woods and had a son named Ferdinand Gurney. He served in many missions across Japan. He also fought in the Battle of Midway. His ship was sunk during the fight by a dive bombing Japanese Zero. He was killed during the sinking of his ship. He was cremated and his ashes were spread across the ocean.


  • He was born on the same date as his youngest great-granddaughter Marge Bouvier.
  • Apparently Thomas had an older brother that also served in World War II but he was caught by the Nazis in England and sent to a camp and was never seen or heard from again.
  • Thomas Gurney was one of the oldest Gurney family member to be alive.
