Cultural references
- The opening titles is similar to The Munsters.
- The title G-G-Ghost D-D-Dad is a reference to the 1990 fantasy comedy film, Ghost Dad.
- The title Scary Tales Can Come True is a reference to the lyrics "Fairy tales can come true" from the song Young at Heart. The plot is a parody of Grimms' Fairy Tales.
- Night of the Dolphin is a parody of the 1973 science-fiction thriller film The Day of the Dolphin.
- Grandpa being eaten by the dolphin is similar to the sequence in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
- The way the dolphins watch the Springfieldians the same as The Birds.
- The scene in which Snorky jumps to freedom in slow motion is ripped off from Free Willy.
