Cultural references[]
- The segment title "Clown Night with the Devil" is a pun on the title of the horror movie Late Night with the Devil (2023) and parodies the scenes from the movie and the movie's plot about found footage of a TV host selling his soul to the Devil.
- Bart is dressed up as Steve Urkel (also using his catchphrase "Did I do that?"), Lisa is dressed as Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice, Ralph as Mario of the Super Mario Bros. videogame.
- Some of the tombstones for children's educational shows cancelled by the Devil are Zoom, Romper Room, 3-2-1 Contact, Pinwheel, The Electric Company, Captain Kangaroo, The Magic School Bus and The Great Space Coaster.
- Lisa has a copy of Better Homes and Gardens.
- Bart, Sherri, and Terri have Oakland/Los Angeles/Las Vegas Raiders foam fingers.
- There are two instances where classic Disney thunderclap sound effects (as heard in many of the studio's movies from the 1940s to the 1980s) get used (first when the Trade Wars, Measles Outbreaks and Pronouns creatures leap out at the family in the opening sequence, and when Satan summons the first batch of educational show gravestones in "Clown Night with the Devil").
- One of the people in the production booth mentions how Krusty's Halloween Special is performing in Peoria, which could be referencing the phrase "Will it play in Peoria?"
- The segment title "The Last Days of Crisco" is a pun on Gramercy Pictures' movie title The Last Days of Disco (1998) set during the declining popularity of disco dancing in the early 1980s. Crisco is a brand of vegetable shortening, a type of solid fat, used in food preparation that also began declining in popularity in the early 1980s when people started favoring trans fat.
- Mayor Quimby's outfit, including the anchor-detailed jacket, is based on Mayor Vaughn's outfit in Jaws.
- Homer and Bart in "The Last Days of Crisco" are spoofing Big and Little Enos in Smokey and the Bandit.
- A fatberg is a large accumulation of fat and discarded toiletries which clogs sewers. The inspiration for the segment is what if a fatberg became sentient.
- The subtitle for Fatberg, "This is the big one! I'm coming, Fat-Lizabeth!" is a reference to Fred G. Sanford's catchphrase in the TV sitcom Sanford and Son.
- The zoom in on Lou's face when the Fatberg's attacks on the fair starts is directly copying the dolly zoom onto Police Chief Brody's face sitting on the beach in Jaws.
- Matt Selman is credited as Selmanator 2: Judgematt Day in reference to James Cameron's 1991 movie of Tristar Pictures Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
Trivia[]
- Writer for the show Michael Price posted on social media, "When we were putting together our Krusty-fied version of LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL, we wondered who could play Krusty's coke-fueled producer. We said he should have the energy of Michael Keaton in "Night Shift." Then we said "Let's ask Michael Keaton!" Thankfully, he said yes! A true icon."
- In this episode, Satan has a similar voice to the Satan in the 1993 Animaniacs episode "Hot, Bothered and Bedeviled." He even spouts "I am Satan" in a similar manner.
- The segment "Plasticworld" is a reference to dystopian movie "Waterworld" except instead of the Earth's surface being completely covered by water, it is covered by plastic waste. Waterworld opens with similar narration.
- Parts of the opening of "Plastic World" bore some resemblance to the scenes which was shown in the "Mr. DNA" cartoon from the 1993 film of Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park.
- Milhouse finds a Celebrity Dirt magazine with Viola Davis on the cover. Viola Davis also voices the narrator.
- Not counting "Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes," this is the first episode of the Treehouse of Horror series where Kang & Kodos do not appear. However, in "Clown Night with the Devil", Sherri and Terri are dressed up as them with their names on their shirts.
- "Plastic World" notably has a different 2D animation style than the other two segments, utilizing more rigged movements in its animation. It is possible that Xentrix Studios animated the entire segment as end credits list the "Head of 2D" and "2D Artists" involved.
- Despite rumors of the skit "Homer vs. The Hatapult" being a standalone segment, elements of it are actually part of the first segment.
Continuity[]

- Krusty is attacked by Emmy statues noting he does not have any of his own. ("Krusty Gets Kancelled")
- The tombstones for Krusty's competitors of since-canceled TV shows is similar to the "Treehouse of Horror III" opening, where the tombstones were for real-life recently canceled primetime animated shows.
