Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye), officially the Republic of Türkiye (Turkish: Türkiye Cumhuriyeti), is a country of Eurasia. It is bordered by Greece, Bulgaria, Armenia, Georgia, Syria, Iraq, and Iran.
In December 2021, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called for expanded official usage of Türkiye, saying that Türkiye "represents and expresses the culture, civilization, and values of the Turkish nation in the best way". In May 2022, the Turkish government requested the United Nations and other international organizations to use Türkiye officially in English; the UN agreed. It's also likely that they changed the name to avoid confusion with the turkey bird.
