U2 is a world-famous Irish rock band founded in 1976, comprised of Bono (Paul Hewson, vocals), The Edge (David Evans, guitar), Adam Clayton (bass) and Larry Mullen, Jr. (drums). They have many hit songs to their credit: "New Year's Day", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "Discotheque", "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "With or Without You", "Angel of Harlem", "One", "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)", "Staring at the Sun", "Beautiful Day" and "Vertigo" among them. They are Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees and were rated by Rolling Stone magazine in 2004 as the 22nd greatest artists of all time.
The band guest-starred in "Trash of the Titans" (Season Nine. The 200th Episode). Homer walks on stage in the middle of U2's PopMart tour to promote his run for sanitation commissioner to the hip people of Springfield. U2 also sing "The Garbage Man", a parody of the song "The Candy Man" from the children's film Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Their name appears in a later episode, "In the Name of the Grandfather", in an ad for a fictitious Ireland-based moving company.
