- The episode's title and the idea of Mr. Burns going undercover is modeled after the TV show Undercover Boss.
- In the credits, the method Burns uses putting on his Fred suit is a parody of Tony Stark/Iron Man from the Marvel Cinematic Universe of Stark putting on his Iron Man suit, most notably in the original Iron Man film.
- The song Why Can't We Be Friends previously appeared in "The Homer They Fall".
- The song Bang on the Drum All Day by Todd Rundgren can be heard in this episode.

- Mr. Burns has a first hands experience when the hounds were released.
- This is one of the few Smithers-Burns relationship episode that doesn't have a reference to Smithers being gay.
- This is the first episode where Alex Désert voices Carl, taking over from Hank Azaria, and also the first episode produced after the non-white characters were recasted.
- This episode also marked the return of most of the original Latin American Spanish cast (including Humberto Vélez) after 15 years of departure.
Goofs[]
- In the ending of the episode when Homer makes the big worker-boss speech, you can see Mindy Simmons in the background even though she got fired. She may have been rehired cause she was seen after the firing in other occasions at the plant.
- On Hulu, the clips from Undercover Burns shows the second episode’s name instead of the first one. This also happens on other Season 32 clips.
- Moe had a drive-thru in his bar, but King Toot’s is next door, if it was, then how was Barney able to go to the drive-thru?
