Rods of Uranium 235 are the key component to nuclear energy. The Springfield Nuclear Power Plant uses rods of Uranium 235. In the Plant's children's video, "Nuclear Power: Our Misunderstood Friend", three rods of Uranium 235 meet up with Smilin' Joe Fission and are incredibly hot. Joe gives them a dip in the pool, where they boil the water and create nuclear energy. Their leftovers become Nuclear Waste.
