Many years later, however, Homer found out that his former principal, Harlan Dondelinger, had rigged the election in Vance's favor. He later explained that two students had got their classmates to vote for Homer as a joke, so they could laugh at him all throughout high school for thinking they really meant it. As such, Vance grew up successful, and eventually became a wealthy business owner.
However, in an alternate reality, if Vance hadn't been elected class president, he most likely would have lived Homer's life, with a dead-end job at the Springfield Power Plant, stuck with an annoying neighbor, and having problems with his father.
- According to Homer, Vance is only 10 days younger than him, making Vance's birthday May 22.
