- This article is about the real life baseball player. For the character, see Wade Boggs (character).
Wade Boggs is a former baseball who was a long-time third baseman for the Boston Red Sox. In 1999, he ranked number 95 on the Sporting News list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players, and was a nominee for the Major League Baseball All-Century Team.
He appeared as himself on The Simpsons episode "Homer at the Bat".
Thought Boggs is hired as one of Monty Burns' top ringers for the nuclear plant's softball team during the playoffs -- and is given a token job to count him as an employee -- he doesn't play in the big game for the championship because he is punched out by Barney in Moe's Tavern after a heated argument over who was Britain's greatest Prime Minister, Pitt the Elder (Boggs' choice) or Lord Palmerston (Barney's choice). Right after Barney knocks Boggs out, still in a drunken rage, Barney knocks out Moe when Moe sarcastically agrees with Barney, saying "That's showin' him, Barn! Pitt the Elder!".
