“ | The city of Washington was built on a stagnant swamp some 200 years ago and very little has changed. It stank then and it stinks now. | „ |

Washington, D.C. is the capital of the United States of America.
It named for George Washington, 1st President of the United States, who himself selected the site along the shore of the Potomac to be the capital in 1790.
History[]
The Simpsons go on an all-expenses-paid V.I.P. trip to Washington when Lisa earns a spot as a finalist in Reading Digest's Patriots of Tomorrow Essay Contest.[1]
Behind the Laughter[]
The District of Columbia or any parts of it were not built on swampland although this myth long predates The Simpsons.[2]
