A future tale of the will-they-won’t-they-I-guess-they-won’t-maybe-they-will of Springfield’s most unlikely couple: Lisa Simpson and Nelson Muntz.

When Lisa is practicing her graduation speech in an empty stadium, she notices that Nelson is pushing training equipment into the storage room which is not easy for him. The two of them have conversations about their past together and the period when they were somewhat romantically involved. Nelson then proceeds to take Lisa back to his house, located in the bell tower of the Memorial Church. They spent the whole night in conversation and watching the sunrise together the following morning. Bart then climbs the tower to look for Lisa, as the family is ready to gather for breakfast. In the stadium, during Lisa's graduation speech, everyone is throwing their caps in the air, where Bart ran late after her speech. As the family departs from the town, Lisa envisions her potential life with Nelson. Disliking her thoughts, she departed the town without saying goodbye.
Five years later, Lisa and Hubert Wong, now married, are on a train departing from Springfield. Hubert has risen to success as a technology entrepreneur and became Time Person of the Year. While they converse with each other, Jeremy is being chased by a bounty hunter named Rott. When he attempted to flee the train, Nelson stopped him. Nelson and Lisa have reunited, and Nelson reveals that he is now in a relationship with Rott. Hubert feels annoyed upon discovering that Lisa once had an affection for Nelson, who used to bully him. The two couples then share the stories of their relationships. Hurbert proposed to Lisa on the moon, while Rott escorted Nelson in due to his overdue library book. As Lisa and Rott step out to get a drink, Hubert lashes out at Nelson, believing his own life to be superior and smugly thinking he has the upper hand in winning Lisa's affections, which Nelson failed to do. Nelson gives Hubert a wedgie and suspends him from a coat hook. Upon discovering Hubert in this state, Lisa informs Nelson that he hasn't changed.
Five years on, Nelson and Lisa cross paths once more in a phone store owned by Hubert. Nelson reveals that his relationship with Rott has ended, and Lisa reveals that her relationship with Hubert has ended as well. The two of them decide to grab coffee at Buzz Light Roast, nearly taking the opportunity to explore a relationship. However, before they can act, Hubert unexpectedly teleports in and asks Lisa to take him back, claiming he has changed. Hubert then employs drones to deliver an apology to Lisa and to inscribe her graduation speech across the sky. Lisa agreed to reconcile with Hubert following Nelson's encouragement. Nelson is frustrated with himself for failing to stop Lisa, ends up giving himself a wedgie.
Four months on, Jimbo and Sophie are set to wed and have invited Nelson and Lisa to serve as their best man and maid of honor, respectively. They both agreed to attend the wedding, only to be surprised upon discovering each other's presence. During the wedding, Nelson becomes distressed and leaves upon seeing the bond between Jimbo and Sophine, reflecting on the connection he might have shared with Lisa. Lisa looks at Hubert, who's engrossed in his phone, browsing a "divorce wizard," before she goes after Nelson. Lisa admits her feelings to Nelson, expressing her desire to be with him, and the two of them kiss.
