Synopsis[]

When Homer is erroneously blamed for leaving Santa's Little Helper locked in a hot car, footage of the incident goes viral, outraging all of Springfield and making Homer a pariah.

Plot[]

The Simpsons are eating breakfast. Marge, desperate to test a new vacuum, wants the family out of the house. Homer takes Santa's Little Helper out for ice cream, and leaves him in the car with the windows open. However, Santa's Little Helper starts running around in the car and accidentally closes all windows. It isn't long before people see him and think Homer was responsible for leaving him in a hot car. They start calling him a pariah. Homer initially isn’t fazed by this, saying it'll blow over, but at church the next day, the people of Springfield make it very clear that it hasn’t blown over. There, Homer tries to apologize, but things worsen when he accidentally pushes Reverend Lovejoy off the window. This angers everyone to the point where they start sharing the video on social media, and it goes viral, calling Homer "The Pastor Pusher". He ends up losing his job, his friends turn their backs on him, and even his own family is embarrassed by him. When he catches them eating at Dead Lobster without him, there, he meets Theo. Seeing how his life went downhill, he approaches him to attend The Institute, an institute that helps social pariahs. where he works with Helen Lovejoy, Jed Hawk, Larry Doogan, and Kirk Van Houten, who, like Homer, all had embarrassing moments shared on social media. They attempt to redeem themselves by cleaning the lake, planting trees, and cleaning graffiti, but they all fail to make any difference. So the only other way to fix their reputations is to use a USB to delete their videos from the internet by breaking into the headquarters of ChumNet and plugging in the USB. But Homer finds out that the videos were meant for click-bait. When the other four are knocked out, Homer manages to escape and inserts the USB. But after he did, he then realized that they would also scrub off the misdeeds of every current horrible person, which is what the Institute was all about. Homer angrily pulls out the USB and destroys it by stepping on it. He then reads the apology letter, restoring his reputation and people's trust. Unfortunately for Theo, his masters become furious at him for failing the mission, and "do to him what they did to democracy: irreparable damage.”
